Emotional pain can be hard to bear. Feelings of helplessness and despair can come over anybody. Sometimes we can bounce back from feeling low, but there are times when it feels as if the sadness gets deeper and deeper as time goes by.

Anger is a powerful emotion that can have far-reaching effects from self-harm to harming others emotionally, verbally or even physically. It may not be easy to deal with anger on your own, but with the right support you certainly can work through it.

Recognising signs of depression is important. If you are feeling a lack of motivation, lower energy, loss of interest in things that you used to find enjoyable, social isolation or avoidance of others, irritability or tearfulness, or any other similar symptoms it is possible that you might be depressed. It could be for a short while or it could be long-lasting. Either way, you would do well to address it in good time.

Whatever the case may be, when the emotional state that you are in starts to interfere with your regular life and relationships, such as absenteeism at school, university or work and conflict with loved-ones or colleagues, it might be a good time to seek counselling.
